DeepBlue Technology invests RMB 15 million to open joint research
center with Tsinghua University to advance commercialization of
machine vision technology.

DeepBlue Technology officially opened a Joint Research Center on Machine Vision with Tsinghua University’s Department of Computer Science and Technology. The RMB 15 million facility will combine the university’s strengths in academic research and development together with DeepBlue Technology’s proven track record of commercializing AI products.

The Joint Research Center has appointed DeepBlue’s founder, Chen Haibo, as Director and will focus on research and commercialization of intelligent information processing technology, as well as pioneering a new model of cooperation and integration between AI companies and universities. The center will accelerate Tsinghua’s researchers and DeepBlue’s product development teams’ efforts to produce a market-ready product.

The new Joint Research Center will explore operations in three major directions: scientific research cooperation, top-level AI talent training and academic exchange. This initiative is also supported by world class experts such as Professor Charlie Wang of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and also a Fellow of the American Association of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Professor Sun Fuchun of Tsinghua University, a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), who graced the event with individual keynotes.

DeepBlue Technology, a leading AI company based in Shanghai, has committed RMB 15 million to this project over three years. “AI will be more and more widely used in the future, and more top talent from colleges and universities will be needed to continuously develop the scientific and technological achievements into landing products.” Mr Chen said. “This is why we are leading the way to collaborate extensively with various scientific institutions, including Tsinghua University, and the Joint Research Center can be said to introduce a new model of in-depth collaboration between AI and R&D.”

Xue Qikun, Vice President of Tsinghua University, added in his remarks, “This collaboration with DeepBlue Technology will not only raise the quality of our research, but also accelerate the process of translating scientific research results into product application.”
At present, the cooperation between most domestic AI enterprises and universities is limited to the direction of talent recruitment and limited industry training. The Joint Research Centre will foster deeper working relationships between researchers and developers in the hopes of advancing the AI capabilities of Chinese enterprises in the near future.

DeepBlue envisions a future where AI will augment and enhance everyday living through the AI CITY and AI Maker concepts. To that end, DeepBlue has pioneered new practical developments of AI using patented key technologies, such as the Panda Bus, the TakeGo vending machines, smart robots, deep vein palm scanners, and many others. Although a young company, DeepBlue already has started selling their notable products in 17 different markets worldwide.

Department of Computer Science and Technology (DCST), Tsinghua University DCST in Tsinghua University was founded in 1958 when the university introduced computer science as one of its majors. Through over fifty years of unremitting efforts, it has been developed into a computer science department with strong scientific research and teaching
accomplishments, and has developed great influence and reputation domestically. It frequently ranks the first in national computer science assessments. The department continues its historical mission to build a first-class computer science research institution, and cultivate top-notch talents. DCST’s vision is that their research and their graduates will be at the forefront of the field, both at home and abroad.
